Mr. OIympia 2017 Results are here… who won? Who should have won?

Mr. Olympia 2017 Results and Analysis - Cardio And Weights Phil Heath Win’s his 7th Mr. Olympia with Controversy…

The 2017 Mr. Olympia has passed but the controversy hasn’t. Phil Heath won his 7th Mr. Olympia in a row, tying Arnold Schwarzenegger for 2nd all-time in Mr. Olympias (1 behind Ronnie Coleman and Lee Haney). This year it was a battle, although the judges scorecard didn’t show it. Many people, including myself, had the champion battling a closely contested contest to Mamdouh “Big Ramy” Elssbiay.

Phil brought a body that had imperfections. He wasn’t as sharp from the front or the back. He had trouble, yet again, controlling his midsection in shots. Big Ramy came in at 295 pounds, sharp, and huge. Big Ramy doesn’t have the back and the detail that Phil has, even when Phil is off. This is what separated the two. I wouldn’t have been mad if Big Ramy won.

Rounding out the top 5 was William Bonac. William Bonac actually was leading Big Ramy after the 1st night of judging. William has more muscle per inch than any bodybuilder on the planet. He looked fantastic! Fourth place was nearly 48 year old Dexter Jackson who looked great, but wasn’t quite as sharp as he was last year. Fifth was Shawn Rhoden, who came in uncharacteristically soft. I would have had Rhoden outside the top 5.

Notes

Brandon Curry

Brandon Curry looked insane. The differences he made in one year were hard to believe. I actually had him 5th ahead of Shawn Rhoden. Brandon still needs to bring up his legs however his conditioning and upper body is world class now.

Lucas Osladil

Props to Lukas Osadil who brought the conditioning. I don’t care that he was the smallest guy on stage. He should have been in the top 10 for his conditioning alone. His hamstrings, glutes, and back had almost no skin to them at all. It’s sad that some bodybuilders get the pass when it comes to conditioning, and others don’t. Way to bring it Lukas.

Johnnie Jackson

Johnnie officially retired at the Olympia. JoJ has one of the best upper bodies of anyone in the world and is known as the world strongest bodybuilder. The guy deadlifted 832 pounds in a competition! Jackson had one of his best years ever this year when he was two back to back shows the Arnold South Africa and the Toronto Pro. Enjoy retirement!

My Top 10

  1. Phil Heath (He was weak this year, however Ramy didn’t have the back to compete… yet)
  2. Big Ramy
  3. William Bonac
  4. Dexter Jackson
  5. Brandon Curry
  6. Shawn Rhoden
  7. Roelly Winklaar
  8. Nathan DeAsha
  9. Josh Lenartowicz
  10. Lucas Osladil
